The classic breed cut
Standard Poodle
- The coat
- A single, curly coat that keeps growing and barely sheds. Loose hair gets caught in the curls, so it mats if it isn't brushed between visits.
- The groom
- Your pick: a classic breed trim with a clean face, feet and tail base, a lamb trim at one length all over, or a softer teddy look. Ask about the traditional show clips.
- How often
- Every 4 to 6 weeks

Shedding season
Goldens, Huskies, German Shepherds and Samoyeds drop their undercoat a couple of times a year. A bath and a deep brush out moves the loose coat out at once.
Behind the ears and pants
On long double coats, the soft hair behind the ears and on the back legs mats first. Brush those spots every few days.
Poodle coats keep growing
A Standard Poodle's coat never stops growing, so every 4 to 6 weeks keeps it clean, soft and easy to brush.

Questions
questions
How much does it cost to groom a large dog?
A full groom for a large dog starts at $130, and a bath and brush starts at $85. These prices are a starting estimate.
How often should a large dog be groomed?
It depends on the coat. Standard Poodles and other dogs whose coat keeps growing do best every 4 to 6 weeks. Goldens and Aussies every 6 to 8 weeks. Short-coated dogs like Labs every 8 to 12 weeks, or more when they shed.
Should I shave my Golden, Husky or other double-coated dog?
Usually not. A double coat helps protect a dog from sun, heat and cold, and a shave can change how it grows back. A bath, a deep brush out of the loose undercoat and a tidy trim usually keep them cooler and cleaner. We'll look at the coat with you and say what is right for your dog.
Do you use cage dryers?
No. We don't own them. Your dog is hand dried while we brush, never shut in a hot dryer box.
Do you groom extra large dogs too?
Yes. Bernese Mountain Dogs, Newfoundlands, Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernards and Old English Sheepdogs are regulars. A full groom for an extra large dog starts at $160.
Can you handle a big, strong dog?
Yes. Large dogs are regulars, and Micaela especially enjoys Doodles, Boxers, Pit Bulls and large breeds.
How do you help a dog that sheds a lot?
A bath and a deep brush out of the loose undercoat, dried by hand while we brush. It moves the loose coat out without shaving the coat that protects your dog.
